Populus Survey Results (June 2020) – The Importance of Sustainability in Shopping
Support for sustainable products, environmentally friendly packaging and locally produced goods is high, according to a recent Populus survey commissioned by Highland Titles.
The professional survey of over 2000 people in the UK showed that between 67-73% of people believe factors such as
- the sustainability of the product
- the sustainability of the packaging
- labels such as Fairtrade & Cruelty Free
- whether the product is local sourced
Perhaps surprisingly, only 42% of respondents thought that the charitable objectives of a company were important.
However, further analysis showed that younger people cared more than older people about the charitable objectives. Whilst 56% of 18-24 year olds and 52% of 25-34 year olds believe that the charitable objectives of a company are important, only 35-37% of people aged over 45 feel the same way.
Opinions on the importance of sustainable packaging were consistent across the age ranges, with an average of 73% of respondents stating that it was an important factor when making their day-to-day purchases.
Locally sourced products
The results of the survey also showed that people of all age ranges prefer to buy locally sourced products. 67% of people stated that it was important, compared to just 30% who felt it was unimportant.
